"We are not an investor owned utility. We are a municipally owned utility, which is extremely unique. We are the largest natural gas utility in the country, and so we serve over over half a million customers," McCoughtry said, describing PGW's customer base as "overwhelmingly residential" and noting the utility employs about 1,600 people, roughly 1,100 of whom are union covered.
