Board records staffing decisions: one contract nonrenewed; superintendent pay raise approved

The Leavenworth Unified School District Board of Education took several personnel actions following an executive session on June 9, adopting a resolution nonrenewing a teacher contract and approving compensation adjustments.
The board adopted Resolution 24/25-024 to nonrenew the contract of teacher Peter Harley for the 2025–26 school year; the resolution directs the clerk to deliver a signed copy of the resolution to Harley. The resolution text was read in open session; the board recorded the vote in the meeting and returned from executive session to take the formal vote.
The board also approved pay and staffing items that had been discussed in executive session. Trustees approved starting classified pay rates and a motion to approve the staffing report as presented. In addition, the board voted to approve a 2.5% raise for Superintendent Dr. Adams for the 2025–26 school year; the motion to approve the raise was presented in open session after the executive session. Board members were reminded to sign the original resolution with the clerk before leaving the meeting.
Because the staffing report and some details were discussed in executive session under the Kansas Open Meetings Act exception for non-elected personnel, board members said they could not publicly discuss the executive-session deliberations. The motions and resolutions were, however, moved and recorded in open session as required.
