Grand County manager reports on water releases, irrigation concerns and finance director transition

Grand County’s manager briefed the Board of County Commissioners on June 2 about recent river releases, ongoing irrigation coordination, and an internal staffing change in the finance office.
The manager said Denver Water increased releases from Williams Fork to about 160 cubic feet per second over the weekend to support recreation flows below Kremmling and PumpHouse, and noted bypass flows on other reservoirs. The manager said those releases raised flows on the Fraser River and that timing would likely change as the season progresses. The manager also described ongoing communications with Northern Water and local irrigators about insufficient flows for some users "below KB," and said the irrigators' meeting was canceled and replaced by smaller group conversations.
On staffing, the manager announced that Alina Bell, currently in county accounting, has accepted the position of Grand County Finance Director effective when the current finance director, Curtis, retires. The manager said Curtis’s retirement date is July 5; Bell’s assumption of the director role was expected to follow.
The manager also said a previously scheduled field tour was canceled and would be rescheduled as two half-day sessions, and noted a planned meeting with Road and Bridge about the intersection of County Road 5 and County Road 522 near the ball fields. The manager said the U.S. Forest Service will meet internally this week regarding a National Forest Foundation wetland mitigation project.
Commissioners had no additional questions during the update.
