Boulder County Head Start grant extended for one year after no competing applicants

Matt Ramos, clerk to the board, told commissioners May 20 that coverage issues canceled the scheduled Head Start presentation but that staff had emailed materials and he would summarize.
"Due to coverage issues with the presenters. Today's head start meeting has been canceled," Ramos said. Commissioner Emily Stoltzmann (identified in the packet as Commissioner Stoltzmann) then reviewed the Head Start packet and said key news was that because there were no other applicants in the 2025 competition pool the current Boulder County Head Start grant was extended for another year.
Stoltzmann said county staff plan to submit a new grant application in the fall of 2025 when the 2026 competition opens, and to do so "removing the request for additional funds and all DEI language as required by that grant." Commissioner Levy asked whether the county would be treated as a new grantee in 2026; Stoltzmann and Ramos said the county expects to compete for a single-year grant initially and that multiyear status may follow after a period of successful performance. Ramos said he believed the number of single-year cycles required before multiyear eligibility is five, but staff will confirm and email the commissioners the precise federal requirement.
Commissioners thanked staff and parents for their work supporting the Head Start program and accepted the report in the meeting packet.
