Show Low Museum debuts Ranchers Hall of Fame exhibit created with Eagle Scouts

The Show Low Museum has installed a Ranchers Hall of Fame exhibit to honor local ranching families, the museum director said. The display was created as an Eagle Scout project led by Austin Goodman and his troop and features ranch names and brands burned into wooden panels gathered from Snowflake.

The museum director said ranching “was a major industry for all of us here in the early days in the 1870s and 1880s” and described the hallway that now holds the exhibit as having been “a white block wall” before the project. “I actually had a dream about honoring and creating an exhibit for our ranchers in the area,” the director said. “I wanted to call it the Ranchers Hall of Fame, not the Cowboy Hall of Fame, because if you're a rancher, you're a cowboy, or a cowgirl, or a cowkid like I was.”

Museum staff partnered with local Eagle Scouts on the installation. The director said Austin Goodman collected the wood from his grandmother’s barn in Snowflake and “Austin branded in there himself.” The director credited Goodman and his troop for carrying out the work after a planning meeting with museum staff.

The exhibit adds names and brands tied to local ranching families to a museum hallway the director said had formerly been an exterior wall. The museum director invited visitors to see the display during normal hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by special appointment.

The museum did not provide further details about the number of panels, a formal dedication date, or funding for the project during the recorded presentation.
