Cameron Curtis of Kittitas County Public Works presented a speed study and context that prompted the hearing. Curtis said traffic tubes were deployed in late March and recorded an average daily traffic (ADT) of about 2,747 vehicles at milepost 1.13 and 1,188 vehicles at milepost 1.79. He reported the 80th‑percentile speeds at both collection points were “right around 50 miles an hour,” while median speeds were 43 mph at MP 1.13 and 41.6 mph at MP 1.79. Curtis also gave the “pace” ranges (the 10‑mph bucket containing most free‑flowing vehicles): 38.6–48.6 mph at MP 1.13 and 39.8–49.8 mph at MP 1.79.
