The Kitsap County Planning Commission used a quick poll to prioritize topics for its June 16 joint meeting with the Board of County Commissioners, identifying promotion of senior and 55+ housing and infrastructure to attract and retain younger families as its top concerns.
Scott Diener, planning manager for the Department of Community Development, presented the poll results and told commissioners that several of the prioritized items are already under active staff work or board discussion, including improved monitoring of regulatory effectiveness and outreach methods to improve public participation. Diener said staff will forward the planning commission's prioritized items to the board; the board will decide the final agenda for the joint session.
Commissioners noted other items of shared interest, including transportation strategies to reduce single-occupancy vehicle reliance and ferry-access improvements, and emphasized the need for better public-notice and engagement approaches for large development applications. Diener said some items will be fit for board-led conversation while other topics may become longer-term docket or work-plan items for DCD.
No formal action was taken beyond selecting and forwarding topic preferences; the Board of County Commissioners will finalize the joint meeting agenda and is expected to return docket items to the Planning Commission for comment where appropriate.
