The Troy Board of Park Commissioners unanimously approved accepting a $1,320 donation to place a memorial bench for golfer Derek Webster at Miami Shores Golf Course.
A parks staff member working with golf operations explained that Webster, a regular Monday-league golfer who died last year, was being honored by friends who funded the memorial. “The total amount ended up being $1,320, and that'll go onto the, we'll find a permanent spot for that on the back 9, probably on Hole 14,” the staff member said. The donor group will contract locally for the inscription.
The board voted to accept the donation and directed staff to work with maintenance to assemble and install the bench. Staff confirmed the bench has arrived and that placement and final inscription will follow the city’s site-selection and signage guidelines.
No budget appropriation was required because the bench is privately funded; staff said installation will be handled by the maintenance department.
