Council greenlights Farrington Park design change order to shift court and extend sewer connection pending legal review

The Stonecrest City Council on June 9 approved change order No. 1 for Farrington Park parking‑lot design services to adjust the layout for a proposed basketball court, expand the detention pond and move an existing sanitary line. The council’s action, taken 4–0, approves a $17,550 change that increases the original contract total from $42,000 to $59,550; the approval was granted pending final legal review.

The change order is intended to move the basketball court south of its original plan to allow on‑site parking to serve players and visitors, staff said, and to relocate the detention pond and sanitary service accordingly.

Tanisha Boynton, the city’s procurement manager, reported that the original design contract with Stantec Consulting Services Inc. (RFP 23‑113) requires a modification because the requested basketball court location overlaps the originally planned detention pond. “The change order is needed because… the basketball court original location, it's anticipated that the detention pond will be expanded,” Boynton said, adding that the sanitary sewer alignment must be adjusted to connect to the closest existing manhole south of the site.

Engineering staff explained the design change also anticipates future amenities: the project will include an extended sewer stub to serve a future restroom, reducing the likelihood of later rework. Staff advised the council that the change order will add time to the design: the project schedule will extend by six months from the original timeline.

Councilwoman Tammy Grimes moved to approve the change order pending legal review; the motion passed 4–0. The change order amount and revised schedule will be corrected in contract documents as requested by council during the meeting.
