Council halves requested biosolids-facility staffing for FY26

On June 9 the Anne Arundel County Council adopted an amendment that reduces the number of new FY26 positions for the county’s biosolids facility from six to three.
Councilmember Volke and budget officer Chris Trumbauer said the Department of Public Works agreed to scale back its request this year; Trumbauer said DPW expects to come back next year to request the remaining positions. The amendment reduces personal services by $175,800 for FY26 and passed unanimously by roll call.
Trumbauer told the council the administration had no objection to the scaled-back approach. Councilmembers framed the change as a timing decision that keeps hiring flexibility for DPW while preserving some of the requested capacity for the facility.
The amendment was adopted 7–0; Trumbauer said the administration anticipates the department may request the remaining positions in FY27.
