Monica Rangel, identified in the program as the development director and a cofounder of the Missoula Butterfly House, opened the event and made several organizational announcements at the final lecture of the 2024–25 Bugs and Brews series.
Rangel said the Butterfly House is “currently in the process of hiring a new marketing and events coordinator” and that filling the position will help the organization maintain its website and post recordings of past lectures. She also thanked staff and volunteers for event work and acknowledged that the lecture was being recorded by Missoula Community Access Television under a media assistance arrangement.
Rangel described a new workshop planned for Tuesday, June 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. led by photographer Kathy Eister. The event will focus on butterfly photography in the Butterfly House and is open to participants using a range of cameras. Rangel announced fees of $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers.
Rangel also thanked a long-term beverage partner that donated drinks for the lecture series; the partner name was pronounced in the program but audio transcription varied. The Butterfly House credited the partner with donating beverages across multiple lecture seasons. Rangel closed by introducing Brenna Shea as the evening’s speaker and noting Shea had worked at the Butterfly House for six and a half years and was moving on to a new job.
Why it matters: The hiring announcement and the planned photography workshop affect the Butterfly House’s outreach and programming schedule. Rangel said the new hire and improved website maintenance are intended to make past lecture recordings and program information more accessible to the public.
Rangel asked attendees to check the Butterfly House calendar for upcoming events and said the Bugs and Brews series will resume in late September.
