City staff on May 27, 2025, provided several operational updates including a submitted grant application, a denied competitive grant, municipal maintenance matters and developer closeout work.
Staff reported that the city "formally submitted the RCTP rural county transportation grant application." Later in the meeting staff clarified the RCTP request was a Butte County grant for $25,000. Staff also reported they had received word from Ashley Henson's office that Cascade did not receive a grant application award for the Third Avenue Southwest project; staff said the office awards only 15 projects per year and that projects carried over from 2024 were awarded first. Staff presented two options: reapply for the grant or discuss bonding for the project at a future meeting in June or July.
Other items in the staff report included: the municipal swimming pool is expected to open on Thursday if weather permits; staff are working with the developer on final closeout for the brewery housing project (a process staff described as required and time-consuming); public-works staff reviewed remaining trees and reminder letters were sent for four trees not yet removed; and the city has received almost 50 applications for veteran banners.
Staff did not present a final schedule for the Third Avenue Southwest project, a bonding plan, or a firm timeline for the brewery project closeout at the meeting.
