Operations committee to forward 8% project options to full board after no recommendation

Committee members reviewed a spreadsheet and three options for projects funded under the district’s so-called "8%" project allocation during the June 6 operations meeting. The committee did not take a formal vote because it lacked a quorum and therefore had no committee recommendation to forward.
Operations staff said they had provided the impact of delaying each listed item in a supplemental spreadsheet, per an earlier request. A board member noted the colleague who originally requested the follow-up was not present. Committee members and staff discussed next steps and the chair was advised to put the 8% project selection on the next full-board agenda for a vote. "You can describe what you just described that you are very close, but no recommendation came forward," staff said, recommending the full board decide at its next meeting.
Several members expressed a desire to change how 8% proposals are presented in the future. One board member urged grouping expenditures into categories (for example roofs, HVAC, etc.) with categorical totals, rather than presenting a long itemized list of small amounts per school. Members suggested further discussion in a work session in August to develop a different format and to determine if the district should pilot a different approval process.
A member said operations committee materials and prior discussions are available in the operations committee archives on YouTube and the county channel, and recommended staff email committee members with links. Because no recommendation was passed in committee, staff will schedule the 8% item for action before the full board so the full board can make a selection and vote.
