Todd Jordan, mayor of the City of Tupelo, proclaimed the week of June 1 through June 7, 2025, as National Garden Week in Tupelo, and members of the Tupelo Garden Club described ongoing planting, education and beautification efforts across the city.
Linda Beasley, speaking for the Garden Club, summarized the group's activities: "Number 1 we plant trees for Arbor Day in the spring, we plant daffodils all over the city along with other people we've done that for years and years we plant tulips down Main Street at the Lee County library and at the sanctuary hospice house ... We partner with Tupelo public schools and with ICC to make the students aware of scholarships bridal contests and camps through national garden clubs ... We provide garden therapy to residents of nursing homes by helping them plant containers that they can keep in their rooms." Beasley also listed partnerships with the Lee County Library, Habitat for Humanity, Tupelo Public Works and preschool and elementary programs, and noted the club's participation in the farmers market and other local events.
Mayor Jordan read the proclamation on the council chamber floor: "Now, therefore, Todd Jordan, mayor of the city of Tupelo, do hereby proclaim the week of June 1 through 06/07/2025 as National Garden Week." Council members and staff thanked the Garden Club for its work; one council member noted the tulips on Main Street as a favorite.
The proclamation recognizes the volunteer group's citywide planting, maintenance and education work but carries no ordinance or funding commitment in the transcript.
