The Sheboygan Area School District held combined commencement exercises for North High School, South High School, Central High School, Etude High School and George D. Warner High School. Superintendent Jake Conrath opened the ceremony and introduced school leaders and student speakers before the Board of Education conferred diplomas.
The ceremony included a processional by combined bands from South and North high schools, processional music credited to music directors Bridal Dingery and Sarah Berman Bergman of North High School and Wade Heinem and Lucas Detweiler of South High School, and the national anthem sung by a combined North–South ensemble.
Why it matters: Commencement ceremonies mark the formal conferring of high school diplomas and recognize students' completion of required credits and academic work. The combined program covered multiple district high schools and honored longstanding traditions at North and South high schools.
Superintendent Jake Conrath thanked the schools' music programs and the First Congregational Church for providing Internet access for a district livestream. Conrath introduced principals and governing-board representatives from the district's five high schools and presented the graduates "for the conferring of diplomas" by the Sheboygan Area School District Board of Education.
Three student speakers addressed the graduates. Jansuni Muwa, president of South High School's class of 2025, opened with gratitude and referenced Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go, telling classmates, "you have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." Max Olsen, class exemplar of North High School, urged classmates to keep "pressing play," using that phrase to describe showing up and engaging in everyday moments. Riley Sundy, class exemplar of Central High School, thanked teachers and families and encouraged graduates to continue supporting others.
A district official said the students present had "achieved the required number of credits necessary for graduation and have completed all of their academic coursework successfully." Board of Education President Santino Laster and other board members participated in the tassel transfer and congratulated the class of 2025.
The ceremony also announced class-exemplar and academic honors for many students and concluded with the formal tassel turn and congratulations to the graduates.
