Committee approves returning to Sculpture on the Move program; staff to prioritize three sculptures

The Parks and Recreation Committee voted to rejoin the Sculpture on the Move program offered by the Creative Communities Alliance and to pursue available sculptures for temporary display. Staff presented examples and the program terms — a two‑year loan with the option to purchase artwork — and the committee authorized staff to negotiate placement and availability.

Staff said the program’s participation fee is $1,000 per year per sculpture and that participating cities typically select works from a rotating pool; artists and sculptures are available for temporary display and are listed for sale while on loan. Committee members reviewed five candidate pieces and asked staff to prioritize three options (a stylized flower, a bird motif and a figurative piece) and to proceed with staff selection if an initial choice proved unavailable.

The committee voted in favor of participating and asked staff to coordinate installation locations (the front of City Hall was discussed for the primary placement and the garden area for a secondary piece), ensure any required site preparation and work with the vendor on solar or low‑energy lighting for displays. The vote authorizes staff to enter the two‑year loan agreement and to manage logistics and any purchase negotiations if the city later chooses to buy a piece.
