Commission enters executive session to discuss possible property purchases; no public action taken

The St. Clair County Commission voted to enter an executive session to discuss potential transactions involving county property, including purchase, sale, exchange or lease and the market value of certain real property.
County Attorney Kyle Baringkind explained that matters involving real property valuation and negotiation are an exception to the Alabama Open Meetings Act and advised the commission that the subject matter was proper for executive session. The commission then moved, seconded and took a roll-call voice vote; commissioners recorded yes votes and entered executive session.
Chairman Baker later returned the commission to open session and entertained a motion to adjourn; no public action concerning property negotiation outcomes was announced during the meeting.
The chairman said the commission’s recent site visits to parcels around the county informed discussion and that staff and commissioners would continue negotiations in closed session to avoid disclosing bargaining positions.
