The Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education on Wednesday approved the appointment of Yasmin Veil Carre as assistant superintendent, the district said after a multi-stage hiring process.
District leaders told the board that Veil Carre was selected after interviews with central office staff, stakeholder groups, two site visits and a meeting with the full board. "She has gone through an extensive inner view process with us that included meeting with the central office staff, a group of stakeholders, a site visit here on our campus, a site visit to our current place of employment, and then ultimately a meeting with our full board of education," Superintendent Dr. Ackerman said in presenting the recommendation.
The hire was described as a match for the district’s priorities because Veil Carre’s experience centers on special education and services for students with individualized education plans. The superintendent noted her background includes roles as a special education teacher, principal, assistant principal and assistant director.
Veil Carre, who currently serves at Rockland BOCES as assistant superintendent of human resources, told attendees she was "truly honored and privileged to be joining such a wonderful, wonderful community such as Chappaqua. My work has always been focused on the student at the center." The board approved the recommendation during the meeting’s instructional consent items.
Board members and district leaders thanked Jamie, the retiring assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services, for more than 30 years of service and noted Veil Carre will be building on that work. The board did not include further details about Veil Carre’s start date or contract terms in the meeting discussion recorded in the transcript.
The board will take additional personnel and operational actions as part of its usual consent and personnel processes at upcoming meetings.
