Sumner County commissioners on June 5 approved a purchasing exception for the sheriff’s office after county staff reported corrective action by Sheriff Craddock and proposed training to address recurring procurement errors.
County staff said the sheriff’s office had taken corrective steps and that the administration plans to offer short, practical training sessions—about 20 minutes once or twice a year—and record the sessions for the county’s DRP training documentation and website. “We’ve got a big nursing class. It makes, like, more short. But what point thing are the most likely things people will meet us and have maybe a a 20 minute training once or twice a year up in the conference room,” a county staff member said. Staff added they plan to record those trainings and post them with the DRP training materials.
Mr. Warren, who introduced the item, recommended approving the exception and said the sheriff had already completed corrective actions and moved budgeting and procurement responsibilities to staff with more time and expertise. The commission seconded the motion and approved it. Staff said they will also consider short training classes and encouraged attendance by county departments that handle purchasing.
Commissioners did not provide a dollar amount tied to the corrective action; no contract awards or ordinance changes were recorded in the discussion.
