Goldsboro High School held its Class of 2025 commencement at the school, where student speakers, school leaders and district officials took part in the ceremony that included presentation of colors, the national anthem and the awarding of diplomas.
Student Christina Sims opened remarks to the audience, saying, “I still remember my day at this school feeling nervous and uncertain,” and reflecting on how Goldsboro shaped her time there. Senior-class speaker Jamia Skye Nobles urged classmates to keep moving forward: “Don't spend your life looking back. Keep moving forward.” In the commencement address, student Eudaly Bastian encouraged peers by example: “If I can do it, so can you.”
Principal Mario Ray and district representatives from Wayne County Public Schools were acknowledged at the ceremony. Principal Mario Ray recognized board members Bridgette Cowan, Tommy Sanders and Len Henderson and thanked central services staff, including Dr. Carol Artis, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Latin honors were announced during the program, and a set of honor graduates and top-10 students were named. The ceremony also paused for a moment of silence to honor graduate Markela McKinnon, a recognition the principal asked attendees to observe.
Faculty and staff across departments — including counseling, JROTC, CTE, arts, athletics, custodial and cafeteria teams — were called up and recognized for their roles in preparing the graduates. The program closed with a charge to graduates and a final address by Amari George.
The event primarily consisted of ceremonial recognitions, student speeches and diploma presentations; there were no formal votes or policy actions recorded during the program.
