The Brookshire City Council held a public hearing at 7:05 p.m. June 5 to begin the statutory process of creating a reinvestment zone that would allow consideration of a Chapter 312 tax abatement agreement for a commercial or industrial project.
Attorney Olson explained the hearing is the first step required by state law to establish a reinvestment zone tied to a planned tax abatement agreement for Grundfos (described in meeting materials). The zone would allow the city to consider tax abatements for qualifying property within its boundaries.
After no members of the public offered comment during the hearing, the council moved to ordinance business. Council considered Ordinance No. 25-735-16, described by staff as a housekeeping name change to designate the new area as "City of Brookshire, Texas Reinvestment Zone Number 3." A motion to approve the ordinance was moved and seconded; the clerk recorded the vote and the motion passed without recorded opposition.
City staff said this would be the third reinvestment zone in Brookshire. Council members noted the change was primarily a naming convention required after state updates to filing and naming rules.
