Commission approves FPL lighting agreement, accepts deed for Ramp Road Park pond

The Cocoa Beach City Commission on June 5 accepted a quitclaim deed from the Brevard County School Board for property at Ramp Road Park and approved a Florida Power & Light agreement to install and maintain new lights at the Ramp Road parking lot.
Stormwater utility manager Morgan Zolke presented the quick claim deed for the pond located on Freedom 7 School property; the commission voted to accept the deed unanimously. The deed acceptance was presented as a budgeted item and carried without public opposition.
Separately, the commission approved an agreement and easement with Florida Power & Light Co. to install and maintain fixtures, poles and associated infrastructure at the Ramp Road parking lot. The one-time contribution-in-aid-of-construction (CIAC) is $12,277.35; staff estimated the change would increase the city’s monthly power bill for the site by $293.19 to cover lights, poles, energy, maintenance, hand holes, wire and conduit. Public Works Director Brad Kelso said the Minuteman Causeway street-lighting work is separate and is included in next year’s proposed budget.
The commission approved both items by unanimous votes. Staff said the FPL easement grants FPL access to install and maintain the lighting plan for the parking area and that the Ramp Road property deed acceptance will be recorded per the school board’s conveyance.
