The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board on June 5 approved a set of professional services contracts totaling several million dollars to support curriculum implementation, assessment, English‑learner support and job‑embedded coaching.
The list of approved contracts in the meeting packet included: Imagine Learning LLC ($480,000) for professional development on curriculum implementation; Amplify Education (amounts cited for DIBELS‑related support and teacher coaching); Savvas Learning Company (two line items totaling approximately $324,400 and $74,250) for high‑quality instructional materials; Great Minds ($885,040) for Eureka Math Squared implementation (grades K–12); National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) ($423,375) for TAP coaching and leader support; and multiple other vendors for targeted professional learning. Funding source for the listed contracts was described as “redesign” dollars.
District staff said the approach differs from past years because the district will focus on intensive, job‑embedded professional learning and on‑site coaching rather than one‑off trainings. Chief Edwards (district instructional lead) and Superintendent Cole told the board the contracts will be deployed primarily to high‑needs schools and will include school‑based coaching, progress monitoring, and administrator training tied to weekly common assessments.
Board members asked how outcomes would be measured; staff said they will use teacher surveys, student-progress monitoring (common assessments), implementation checklists and on‑site coaching logs. Board members expressed support but asked staff to be explicit about timelines and compliance measures; staff said some PD offerings will be optional (summer training) while other components are required and school‑based.
Board member Powell Lewis made the motion to approve the package; the motion was seconded by board member Lewis and carried.
