Rio Rico resident asks county to create code enforcement officer, questions $5 million disbursement

Kathy Campana of Rio Rico used the public-comment period at the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 3 to ask the board to create and fill a dedicated code enforcement officer position, saying staff are “really stretched thin.” She also asked why a newspaper reported a $5,000,000 disbursement that did not appear on the board’s agenda and whether the matter had been discussed in closed session.
“I'm here requesting that you all consider creating a position and filling it for a code enforcement officer because there have been so many violations and the staff is really stretched thin,” Campana said. She added she would like to know “who got how much and why” with regard to the $5,000,000 reported by the newspaper and asked that the information be made public.
The chair replied that, because the topic was not on the agenda, the board could not discuss it from the dais during public session and suggested Campana speak with the county manager to follow up. No board action was taken on either request at the meeting.
