The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors voted on June 3 to move its regular meetings to the first and third Wednesday of each month. Supervisors said the change would align better with other association commitments and give departments additional time early in the week to make agenda adjustments.
During discussion board members noted the third-Wednesday timing helps supervisors attend the county association meeting in Phoenix on the same day. A friendly amendment to set the meeting start time at 9:30 a.m. was offered and discussed; the chair and other supervisors said they would consider occasional evening meetings on a quarterly basis to improve public access.
The county manager noted that afternoon meetings have been tried in the past for a limited period. A motion to adopt the schedule change was made, seconded and approved; the record shows the motion carried in open session.
The board did not adopt a formal quarterly evening schedule at this meeting; members asked staff to explore options and to bring adjustments back to the board for consideration.
