Council advances static damper proposal (24GP1115 Rev.6) to CR-102 public-comment stage

The Washington State Building Code Council voted unanimously June 6 to forward a revised static-damper proposal, identified as 24GP1115 Revision 6, into the CR-102 public-notice and comment process.
Roger Haringa, chair of the Building and Fire-Related Work (BFRW) committee, summarized the committee’s process and credited the proposal’s lead proponent, Eric Vandermeid, for extensive engagement with stakeholders. Roger said the BFRW committee had worked through multiple rounds of comment and reached a version recommended for CR-102 consideration.
A council member moved to forward 24GP1115 Revision 6 to CR-102; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Ben (council member) clarified during discussion that the proposal would propose amendments to the International Building Code (IBC) and include correlated provisions for the International Fire Code (IFC).
Council members noted the proposal had been through multiple committee revisions; staff and the BFRW chair said additional public comment will be sought during the CR-102 period and any technical issues raised there will be returned to the council as required by the rulemaking process.
The CR-102 step begins the formal public-notice period in Washington administrative rulemaking; if the rulemaking package proceeds, it may be revised based on public comment and additional technical analysis before final council action.
