Officials say Reworld invested in equipment upgrades; noise testing scheduled

Mayor Jeff Cajano and council members provided an update on noise and vibration improvements at the Reworld (Covanta) facility.
The mayor said the company completed replacement work on Boiler 2 spray dryer absorber vessel and associated flue‑gas ductwork during an annual maintenance outage and that the work "represented over 2,000,000 of investment by reworld. The work has been completed." He said initial testing "looked very good" and that weather‑dependent follow‑up testing was scheduled for May 15.
The mayor cautioned that residents should not expect total elimination of noise: "maybe the misnomer that there would never be any noise is a misnomer. It's been making noise for 40 years," he said, while noting the recent vibration issues arose after replacement of other duct fans and components.
City officials said the Bristol Burlington Health District has been monitoring the facility and that the health department issued a notice of violation earlier; the mayor said both the company and the health department were cautiously optimistic pending the May 15 tests.
Councilors asked for copies of the company's communications with the city; the mayor said he would forward an email from the company's government relations representative to interested councilors.
No formal action was taken; the council will await the results of the weather‑dependent follow‑up testing.
