Mineola building department reports 90 permits in May, urges property maintenance; landscapers asked not to leave clippings on curb

Mineola Building Department head Thomas O'Keefe told the Board of Trustees on June 4 that the department issued 90 permits in May 2025 and 991 permits for the fiscal year running June 1, 2024, through May 31, 2025.
O'Keefe said the launch of the Municity permitting system last August and staff efforts contributed to the department's workload management: "With the launch of Municity Last August and the hard work put in by my team in the office. I think we're able to pull off a very successful year." He said the department distributed property-maintenance letters and thanked residents and commercial property owners for an "outstanding response" to the notices.
O'Keefe also urged landscapers that maintain residential properties to remove clippings and debris from each location and not leave them on the curb for sanitation crews to collect: "I'd like to remind landscapers that are maintaining residential properties that any clippings and debris collected at each location must be taken with you. Please do not leave them on the curb for sanitation to collect." That request followed a discussion with sanitation staff about ongoing issues.
