The Chino Valley Unified Board of Education adopted Resolution 2024-25-77 declaring a Title IX month and said it will continue advocacy for protections for female student-athletes.
Board member Andres Cruz moved the resolution and Yohanan Cervantes seconded it. During discussion, Board President Sonia Shaw said she would “advocate all day long for our girls to have their rights,” and asked members of the public to submit any specific Title IX complaints so staff can investigate.
The motion carried on a recorded vote of 5-0.
Supporters and opponents of the district’s recent focus on girls’ sports and transgender participation addressed the board during public comment elsewhere on the agenda. Several speakers at the public-comment portion asked the district to focus resources on female athletic programs, while others warned about the legal risks of conflicting state and federal guidance.
The resolution text was entered into the meeting record as Resolution 2024-25-77; the board did not attach a separate enforcement action to the declaration. The item was an action item on the meeting agenda and was resolved in open session.
