Play school director reports steady enrollment, requests safety attention in park parking lot

Susan Knox, who runs the Play School in the Park, told the Parks and Recreation Committee that enrollment this year is roughly stable and that staff have been responsive to several maintenance issues.
Knox said the program serves 2- to 5-year-olds and runs part-day and full-day options; several 4-year-olds now attend transitional kindergarten at local public schools. She told the committee the play school added a full-day option in recent years and expected next year—s enrollment to be "at least as much enrollment as this year, if not a little bit more." Knox praised park staff for prompt repairs to leaks and plumbing after she emailed staff, saying those issues "were addressed immediately by Will."
Knox also raised a safety concern: she has observed drivers accelerating from the building toward the end of the parking lot near the tennis courts, where children and pedestrians use the area. She asked the committee to consider ways to slow traffic there. Knox said some classroom linoleum has buckled and that she will coordinate maintenance with the council and park staff.
No formal action was taken on the report; committee members asked staff to note the safety concern and follow up on maintenance coordination.
