Council approves vacating 5-foot utility easement at 2074 Douglas Avenue

The Clearwater City Council on June 5 voted to vacate the west 5-foot city utility easement covering portions of Lot 5 and the south 20 feet of Lot 4 in Block X of Bay Terrace, at 2074 Douglas Avenue, by approving ordinance 98-11-25 on first reading.
City staff read the ordinance title into the record. Resident and U.S. Army veteran Odell August spoke in support of the easement vacation, saying, "This easement offers minimal benefits to the community public service while lowering property value. ... Eliminating this easement along with similar ones will benefit nearby properties and infrastructure."
Property owner Aaron Peterson introduced himself at the podium and offered to answer questions from the council. After a brief public comment period the council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on voice vote with no recorded opposition.
The ordinance vacates the west 5 feet of Lot 5 and the west 5 feet of the south 20 feet of Lot 4 as recorded in Plat Book 13, Page 22 of the Pinellas County public records; staff will record and implement the plat adjustments in accordance with city procedures.
