Board to reissue RFP for 25 acres of airport-owned agricultural land

The Cleveland Airport Board discussed reissuing a request for proposals (RFP) for about 25 acres of airport-owned agricultural land that is currently used for grazing.
Airport staff member Aaron said staff and records searches were unable to locate a contract for the parcel that a local operator, identified as Mr. Dean in the meeting, currently uses. “We were unable to capture that contract from the gentleman who currently uses that space, Mister Dean,” Aaron said, and added that staff want to be fair and consistent by opening the parcel to competitive proposals.
Staff described the parcel as 25 acres that, because of runway-protection constraints, cannot be developed for buildings and is therefore most suitable for cattle grazing. A board member said the current annual payment is roughly "dollars 400 a year for agricultural land," and staff said the RFP will establish a new fair market value.
Board members agreed to take the matter to the city council to publish an RFP so multiple interested individuals can submit proposals. No formal action or award was made at the meeting.
