East Ramapo interim superintendent credits budget passage for improved hiring; two senior hires announced

Anthony DeCarlo, interim superintendent of schools for the East Ramapo Central School District, thanked the community for support of the 2025–26 budget and said the approved plan has allowed the district to begin hiring earlier than in past years.
DeCarlo said the budget will support both short- and long-term priorities and “advance meaningful opportunities and experiences for all our students.” He told the board the district has already begun interviewing and recruiting teachers and holding demonstration lessons, steps he said the district has not been able to do in many years.
The superintendent emphasized staffing progress as a direct effect of the budget’s passage. “We are far way ahead of where we should be,” DeCarlo said, adding that the district held three job fairs and that the assistant superintendent for human resources and the cabinet had been active in recruitment.
DeCarlo and board members also announced two hires: Matt Gravitz as executive director of personnel and Julissa Rincon Tamizawa as assistant superintendent for MLE (Multilingual Learner and English) instruction. The board welcomed both to the district during the meeting.
DeCarlo said administrators are preparing transition material and that some operational changes (including addressing cafeteria scheduling and space) will be shared with the next superintendent and implemented in phased steps because of scheduling and contractual implications.
The board approved consent and action items in grouped motions by voice vote; the agenda motions carried. The superintendent also confirmed the district will provide water and logistical planning for upcoming graduations and has a rain plan to use Rockland Community College if needed.
Why this matters: The district’s ability to recruit and onboard teachers earlier in the summer could affect classroom staffing and program continuity for the 2025–26 school year. The newly announced personnel hires fill senior functions in personnel and multilingual instruction.
