The Madison County Board of Commissioners approved a renewal agreement to fund school resource officers (SROs) for the Madison County School System during its June 2 work session.
The agreement, renewed annually, sets a cap of $540,000 and covers up to nine SROs. The sheriff’s office will handle payroll, equipment, vehicles and other SRO-related costs; the sheriff’s office will calculate salaries and invoice the Board of Education, with funds routed through the county according to the agreement.
County staff confirmed the contract had already been signed by the sheriff and required Board of Education approval. Commissioners asked about invoicing cadence; staff noted invoices are written monthly and payment is due by the 10th of the month. The board approved the agreement by motion with no recorded public opposition.
The contract renewal is procedural and follows the county’s existing interagency arrangement for SROs; the board did not change staffing levels in the agreement.
