At the June 5 meeting the board received brief updates on two recreational structures: Merry Pier and the shuffleboard clubhouse.
Staff reported the pier’s most recent appraisal at about $210,000; applying the city’s 50% substantial damage threshold would put the repair threshold at roughly $105,000. Staff said they are gathering repair estimates and hope to secure FEMA funding and are optimistic the repairs can be done for under the threshold, but no final funding decisions had been made.
Members also discussed the shuffleboard clubhouse and a historic sign associated with longtime volunteer Trudy Perry. An attendee asked whether the sign would be restored; staff said volunteers who run the shuffleboard courts during winter collected signs and they appear to be in storage and likely will be reinstalled, though no firm plan or date was provided.
The board discussed a broader idea — whether salvageable houses could be moved onto city property to serve as a clubhouse or other public use — but no action was taken. Staff said they will continue to pursue FEMA and other funding options and will provide updates when available.
