Council members asked both applicants about affordability as a barrier to climate action and about outreach strategies. Applicants suggested local fundraising and neighborhood initiatives to reduce costs for participation and to increase community engagement. Staff noted the Climate Action Committee had renewed a student-ambassador program to link youth volunteers with the committee; staff said the unsuccessful applicant could pursue that route and staff would connect them with the committee coordinator, Phoebe Golden.
A motion to appoint Penelope Trott passed on roll call (Andrews: yes; Beckman: yes; Casiza: yes; Vice Mayor Thomas: yes; Mayor Ravasio: yes). The council and staff encouraged both applicants to stay involved through the committee's student-ambassador opportunities and other volunteer options.
