Nikkita Canderia described growing up in Corte Madera and running event programming at a Sausalito venue; Brooke Hansen, a Redwood High School student and athlete, described volunteer leadership work and event organization in school and community programs.
The council asked each applicant to confirm they could meet commission expectations: regular in-person attendance (minimum 75% of scheduled meetings in a fiscal year) and participation on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Both candidates said they could commit. Canderia said she could meet the schedule; Hansen said she would provide her high school water polo schedule and work around any conflicts, prioritizing the commission.
A council member moved to approve both applicants; the motion was adopted by voice vote and the council welcomed the new commissioners.
Why it matters: Parks and Recreation commissioners help set program priorities and advise staff on use of public spaces and events. The two appointments add a mix of event-planning experience and youth perspective to the commission, which the council discussed as useful for reaching different age groups in town.
The council closed the Parks and Recreation portion of the special meeting and moved on to other advisory-body interviews.
