Resident raises parking and access concerns at State Veterans Cemetery near Big Sky High School

A Missoula resident told county commissioners June 4 that vehicles attending events at nearby Big Sky High School have been blocking entrances to the State Veterans Cemetery along Tower Street and parking on ornamental rocks, and asked the county to add no-parking/tow signage.
Mike Harrison described repeated incidents in the past month and said buses have parked on grave-marker rocks and turf. “It’s just a lack of disrespect to the people that are interned there,” he said, asking the county to provide enforcement tools such as towing authority for violations.
Commissioners asked for contact information so staff could follow up. Commissioner Dave Strohmeyer (as noted in the meeting exchange) said the county’s public works meeting at 8 a.m. Monday will discuss the issue and that staff who had already been in contact would continue outreach. County staff requested that representatives from the State Veterans Cemetery be encouraged to contact county offices directly to coordinate.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; county staff said the topic is expected to be considered at the county public works meeting where signage and enforcement options will be discussed.
