Commission orders creation of Wonderland Road District, sets July 15 election date

Meade County commissioners on May 27 found that petition, map and posting requirements had been met for the proposed Wonderland Road District and issued an order to proceed to election.
Ria Crane, Meade County auditor, told the commission she had received the petitions on March 28 and that the map and petition were publicly displayed April 26 through May 27, with an affidavit of publication on file. Crane also noted that the City of Somerset had reviewed and approved the proposal because the proposed district lies within Somerset's three-mile extraterritorial planning jurisdiction.
With statutory posting and municipal concurrence confirmed, the commission approved an order declaring that the petition satisfied the requirements of the referenced statute. Crane said the auditor will set the election date; she announced the Election would be held July 15, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Meade County Commission Room.
Why it matters: If a majority of landowners who cast ballots in the July 15 election vote yes, the commission will proceed with the process that ultimately incorporates the Wonderland Road District and allows voters to elect trustees to manage road improvements and assessments.
The commission instructed staff to work with petitioners to publicize the election locally; Crane said the petitioners would also do advertising in the area to reach affected landowners.
