Powhatan County supervisors on May 19, 2025 voted to schedule a public hearing on a proposed lifetime dog-license option that county staff said would simplify annual renewals and reduce staff time.
Staff said the treasurer’s office and animal control recommended a lifetime license priced at $10 and that the fee would apply for the life of the dog. Supervisor motioned to schedule the public hearing for the next meeting so the public may comment.
The board approved the motion by voice vote. Staff will prepare ordinance text and notice for the hearing and will present the proposal for public comment at the next board meeting.
