The Lubbock Planning and Zoning Commission on June 5 approved two zoning requests by unanimous vote.
Zone case 1943, filed by AMD Engineering LLC for a property south of North Loop 289 and west of North Memphis Avenue, was approved to change zoning from Heavy Commercial (HC) to Medium Density Residential (MDR). Sam Braquin of the Planning Department told commissioners the proposal conforms with the future land use map and is compatible with surrounding apartments; staff had no objection. Will Stevens of AMD Engineering spoke for the applicant. The motion to approve carried 7‑0.
The commission also approved zone case 1825A, submitted by Keller Williams Commercial for Pinkies Inc., to rezone property north of 80 Second Street and east of University Avenue to Auto Urban Commercial (AC). Shane Spencer (case presenter) told the commission the future land use map designates the site for commercial uses and staff had no objections; applicant representative Jeremy Stein said the intended tenant is Bolton’s Oil Change and noted deed restrictions would limit certain uses. Commissioners approved the request 7‑0.
Both approvals were made after staff presentations, public notice and brief applicant remarks; no speakers spoke in opposition to 1943, and one mailed response on 1825A did not elaborate on objections. The votes were voice votes recorded by the chair as unanimous.
