Board adds 10.3-acre parcel to James River Agricultural and Forestal District

The Powhatan County Board of Supervisors on May 19, 2025 approved an application to include a 10.288-acre parcel at 4259 Old River Trail in the James River Agricultural and Forestal District (AFD).
Planning staff said the parcel (tax map 7‑1‑6) would join an existing James River AFD of approximately 1,391.85 acres and that the AFD advisory committee and planning commission had recommended approval. “This particular property would expand the core of the AFD,” the advisory-committee representative said, noting adjacent wetlands, a stream feeding Mohawk Creek and proximity to the Powhatan State Park entrance.
The board voted to add the parcel to the AFD by motion and roll call. The addition will limit permitted uses on the parcel to agricultural and forestal preservation activities consistent with the AFD program.
