The Bellemead City Council adopted an ordinance on third reading repealing a telecommunications sales-tax exemption and adding a local sales-and-use tax on telecommunication services pursuant to language read from the Texas Tax Code.
City staff briefed the council in advance and presented the ordinance for third and final reading. The ordinance was described in the meeting as a repeal of the communication-sales-tax exemption pursuant to a citation read aloud as "Texas tax code 3 21 dash 2 1 0." Councilmembers called the question and approved the ordinance; a roll-call vote recorded “yes” from each council member present.
The ordinance will be codified into the Bellemead Code of Ordinances and put into effect per the effective-date language contained in the ordinance text. The meeting record does not include additional implementing details such as effective date specifics or expected revenue estimates; staff indicated they had previously reviewed the issue with council and were presenting the final reading for approval.
