Kennesaw holds first public hearing on 2025–2029 capital improvement, no action taken

The Kennesaw City Council held the first of two public hearings on the city’s capital improvement and short‑term work project report, which covers fiscal years 2025 through 2029; no action was taken at the meeting and a final hearing is scheduled for June 16.

City staff member Daryl told the council that “every year the city of Kennesaw is responsible for preparing, submitting and getting a regional approval from the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Department of Community Affairs for a capital improvement and short term work project report.” He said the report is required to maintain the city’s qualified local government status and to support the city’s impact‑fee framework for new development.

During the presentation, Daryl said the Department of Community Affairs must approve the report and that it covers the five fiscal years from 2025 to 2029. He noted this meeting was the first of two public hearings and that “no action will be required until the second public hearing, which will be June [16].” The mayor opened the floor for public comment on the item; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed.

City staff also confirmed the item had been duly advertised. The council did not vote on or adopt the report at Monday’s meeting; staff indicated the council will consider adoption at the second public hearing.

The council will return to the item at the scheduled June 16 public hearing for possible adoption by resolution and for transmittal to the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
