The Gainesville Mayor and Council unanimously approved five consent items during their Tuesday meeting, adopting the FY2024 annual update to the CIE and authorizing several finance and project steps for transportation, senior nutrition and public safety equipment.
City Manager Bridal Lackey told the council that the FY2024 annual update to the CIE is the final step and that the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) had approved the city’s submittal. “This is the final step in this. DCA has approved our submittal and so tonight, this will be the final approval of that FY 2024 document,” Bridal Lackey said. The council voted to adopt the update as part of the consent agenda.
Also approved was authorization to acquire land and easement rights necessary to construct intersection improvements at Candler Road/State Route 60 at Old Candler Road; the item was presented as a limited right-of-way acquisition to enable the intersection work. The council likewise approved a contract with Open Hand Atlanta Incorporated to provide nutrition services for the city’s Meals on Wheels program; city staff described the change as a shift from a state-level contractor to a local provider.
The council approved a master lease purchase agreement with P and C Bank National Association to finance a new ladder fire truck, enabling the city to proceed with ordering the apparatus, and it adopted the Haul Area Transit public transit agency safety plan required for federal reporting every few years.
Before the consent vote, City Attorney Abbot Hayes announced that a public hearing item on an annexation by Brian Brinson had been tabled by the planning appeals board and would not be heard that night. The council also approved the reappointment of Ruth Bruner to a city board during the consent portion of the meeting.
A council member moved to approve the five listed consent items; a second was recorded. The motion passed unanimously. No amounts, parcel identification numbers, contract values or effective dates were given in the meeting record.
The meeting concluded with no additional public hearings scheduled for that evening.
