District presents 2025–26 safety plan; 30-day public review begins

District officials presented the proposed 2025–26 Rye City School District Health and Safety Plan to the board June 3 and opened a 30-day public comment period.
The presentation was described as an annual review required to keep the district aligned with changes from the New York State Education Department and to reintroduce first responders and new safety initiatives. The district will make the plan available on the board website under the Safety and Security tab and on BoardDocs as part of the meeting materials.
“There's a 30 day period for any, you know, questions, responses, feedback that we receive, and then... when we come back at the August, we will be asking the board to approve it so that it can get up to the state in time for the October 1 deadline,” a district presenter said during the meeting.
Board members asked where members of the public could review the draft; staff replied the plan is posted on the BoardDocs featured page and the Safety and Security menu and provided typical district contact channels for feedback. The board recorded no public comment during the meeting on the safety plan itself.
The district intends to return to the board in August with a recommendation for approval to meet the state’s Oct. 1 filing deadline.
