Board opens public hearing on code of conduct review; final adoption slated for June 17

The Rye City School District Board of Education opened a public hearing June 3 on the district’s updated code of conduct and closed the hearing after hearing no comments from the public.
Board member Jen Boyle said the code review began about a year ago and that revisions were intended to align the document with the district’s Rye Commitment, reflect social-emotional practices, and streamline repetitive language. Boyle said one specific change made last week adds coaches to the transportation section.
“As part of any changes that we make to the code of conduct, we have to conduct a hearing of the public to get any feedback,” Boyle said during the meeting.
Board members agreed to carry the item forward for a second review at the board’s next meeting; if no additional questions are raised then, the board expects to move the code forward for adoption at its June 17 meeting. The board also said it will communicate adopted changes to families, students and staff.
The transcript records no public speakers at the hearing and no formal amendments to the draft during the public portion of the meeting.
