Washington County Republican Women approve state-conference delegates; membership tallies discussed

The Washington County Republican Women on Thursday approved a slate of delegates to the Utah Federation of Republican Women conference in St. George and heard a membership report showing recent growth in club rolls.

The club’s membership meeting selected eight delegates and one alternate for the state federation’s Nov. 8 conference in St. George by voice vote. Club members approved the slate after nominations and a motion to confirm the listed delegates.

The approved slate will represent the club at the Utah Federation of Republican Women conference, where state leadership positions will be elected. The club had said it is the largest in the state and therefore receives the most delegate slots.

At the meeting, Jennifer, who presented the membership report, said the club had added 15 new members this year and currently counted 68 total members. “We have 15 new members this year for 2025,” Jennifer said. “And currently, we have 68 members.” She explained the club’s delegate allotment is calculated by membership, saying, “we get delegates every 10 members.”

Nominations produced the names the club moved to approve. The list announced and approved included Jennifer; Alexis; Sharon; Kristen; Braylee; Brooks; Les; Stephanie; and Nanette. The meeting chair called for a motion to approve; the motion was seconded by Jennifer and passed on a voice vote after members answered “aye.” No opposing votes were recorded on the transcript and the chair closed the vote.

Club leaders also reviewed internal fundraising and membership tiers used to support the organization’s operations. The membership report described the club’s “GEM” tiers (called “gym” in the meeting), with suggested contributions cited during the presentation as $50 for silver, $100 for gold and $500 for diamond, which members said reduce the need for routine fundraising at meetings.

The group noted that the club will take July and August off for a summer break and will resume luncheons in September. Club leaders also encouraged attendees to sign note cards with questions for a later presentation by the county clerk/auditor team.

The action taken—approving delegates and an alternate—was recorded as a club appointment of representatives to the Utah Federation conference. The meeting did not record a roll-call vote or provide a numerical tally on the transcript; the approval was by voice vote.

Club members who wanted to stand as delegates or be nominated were invited to indicate interest at the meeting. The club’s leadership indicated it will announce its full slate through the club nominating process and participate in the state federation’s delegate selection and leadership election in November.

Less central meeting items included announcements about a Revolutionary War exhibit at the St. George Library, recognition of Sharon Simmons for coordinating a police-week delivery to county departments, and reminders about local caucus-education meetings and upcoming municipal elections filings.

The meeting’s actions concern internal club representation at a state federation conference and internal membership and fundraising matters; they do not change public policy or government operations.
