Board approves multiple maintenance contracts and stadium lighting bid; members press for field watering and repairs

At the May 20 meeting the Oxford Area School District approved a series of maintenance and service contracts covering HVAC preventive maintenance, building automation, fire and life safety systems, generator service, pest control, elevator maintenance and field maintenance. The board also voted to accept a stadium lighting bid from Greg A. Vietri Inc.

Contracts cited in the consent agenda included a preventive maintenance agreement with Trane for chillers at district schools, Carrier Commercial Services contracts for multiple chillers, and a Frey Lutz building automation contract for Hopewell Elementary; the district also approved a Window View Athletic Fields maintenance contract and a Deerfield Mowing and Property Management landscaping contract.

During discussion board members asked for clarification on the fields contract after prior drought-related damage. They asked whether watering is included when seedings are performed and whether the contract—s topdressing and divot repair scope would improve playability ahead of the fall season. Administration said some fields have direct water access while others do not, noted past use of local fire companies to assist with watering during drought, and said long-term remedies will be addressed as part of the facilities upgrades planned for coming summers.

Why it matters: the contracts fund routine services that preserve facility safety and functionality. The field maintenance and stadium lighting items drew particular focus because athletic fields are heavily used and some suffered drought damage last year; trustees asked administration to prioritize remediation and to consider water access in planning.
