Orange Village Council voted June 4 to approve the purchase of a 2025 Ford Interceptor from Montrose Ford for an amount not to exceed $49,830 under the state purchasing contract to replace a vehicle the village lost in a spring flash flood.
A staff member said the vehicle was responding to a flood assistance call on April 22 when it became trapped in fast-moving water and the engine flooded. “So after the insurance payout and everything, I believe, you know, has all the correct numbers, but there's just a small amount that needs to be, cost to the village,” the staff member said. He added that “the engine got flooded...the insurance company totaled it out.”
The staff member told council the insurance would cover the vast majority of cost and the village would be responsible for a deductible and small remaining expenses; he estimated the village’s total net cost would be “around $7,000 after everything's said and done.” Council moved and seconded the purchase and then approved it by roll call; each council member present voted yes.
Why it matters: The purchase restores an emergency response vehicle lost while responding to flooding. Using the state bid keeps procurement aligned with cooperative purchasing rules and limits the village’s replacement cost.
Next steps: Finance staff will finalize the insurance accounting and vehicle upfitting to complete the replacement.
